Timestop

Timestop fixes the camera in front of Link as though he were playing ocarina, but he can still move around. Timestop can be canceled by hitting a load zone, voiding, jumping, grabbing a ledge, or taking damage at a standstill.

As is the case with Ocarina Items, bomb timestop is faster than bottle timestop when done unbuffered, saving around 7s over bottle timestop if dumping and catching are both needed or 1s if only catching is needed. But because bomb timestop is frame perfect and awkward to execute, many runners choose bottle timestop for ease, and pause buffering bomb timestop eats into the time it saves.

Bottle timestop

  1. Catch something in a bottle
  2. While holding target, press shield and then press the bottle button one frame later

Bomb timestop

Bomb timestop doesn't work on version 1.0.

  1. Run with a bomb and let it explode so Link's hands stay up
  2. Hold ESS position to start shuffling
  3. On the 11th explosion frame (same as bomb OI), input a direction, target, shield, and a cutscene item; target can be held prior as long as you ESS shuffle

Note that if you don't hold a direction in step 3 and keep ESS shuffling, you will softlock.

Walking while playing

Getting timestop near an ocarina staff lets Link walk around with the staff up, but only in certain scenes. This can also be done without timestop.
